This tour will take you into the heart of Rotorua one of the leading tourism destinations of Aotearoa. Limited to a maximum of 11 people we get to fit much more into the day. We start our tour driving down the inner Tauranga harbour towards Mauao (Mount Maunganui) and discover how Mauao got his name. Then take in the stunning white sandy beaches of Mount Maunganui and the off shore islands, sharing with you significant events, history, the people and how Tauranga has become the fastest growing city in New Zealand.
Our first stop is the Kiwi Country Store (due to open for the 2016/2017 summer season), a working Kiwi fruit orchard, where you can get amongst the vines, taste the green and gold kiwi fruit and sample the kiwi fruit and juices. We explain the significance of the kiwi fruit to the region, hear about how this area grows the best Kiwifruit in the world and tell you a little about its growing cycle. This is also a great spot for a bit of souvenir shopping or purchase a Kiwifruit Ice cream.
After this its back on the road as we wind our way through the rolling countryside, farmland and pine forests to arrive at Okere Falls – well known form its waterfalls and white water rafting. Your guide will share with you the significance of Okere falls along the way. If we time it right, we might also see some of the rafters and kayakers plummet over one of the many surging waterfalls from our vantage point amongst the native bush.
Next it’s off to Whakarewarewa, home of the famous Pohutu, and Prince of Wales Feathers Geysers, mud pools, steaming geysers and steam boxes. You will meet up with your Maori guide who will who will take you on a guided tour of an authentic living Maori village.
